Colt Martin of Pendleton was the boys winner and Kerington Lamb of Easley was the girls champion at the Upstate Junior played at Smithfields in Easley.

Martin needed a three hole playoff before he was able to top Brandon Masters for the boys 16-18 title and overall championship.

Lamb started the final round with the lead and shot her best round in a tournament carding an even par 72 the second day to win the girls overall title.

“This is the best round I have ever had here and the first time I have shot even par in a tournament,” said the girls champion.

Lamb didn’t get off to a fast start, instead a double bogey on the second hole dropped her out of the lead.

“There were some tough competitors out there and I was glad I could stay close to them especially after the way I started,” she said.

The Easley High School golfer made up the shots she lost and by the end of the round had gotten back to even to hold a big lead over the rest of the field.

“This is my home course and to get my first big win here is great. I hit everything pretty solid today and after a bad start I was really glad to pull it together and win,” said Lamb.

Emma Reid finished second with a 159 total while Ashlee Richardson finished at 160 for third place.

Martin trailed Brandon Masters and Tanner Pilgrim by a shot going into the final round. The Pendleton High School golfer shot the best final round in the boys division. He posted a 3-over par 75 for a 148 total.

Masters added a 76 to his first round 72 to end regulation play tied with Martin. Pilgrim fell off the pace and would finish tied for second in the boys 13-14 year old division.

Martin and Masters each birdied the first playoff hole and parred the second. On the third hole Martin was able to claim the Upstate Junior title with a par.

“I really wasn’t playing very well coming into this tournament, but I have always played well here,” said the winner. “I was hoping I could get my game back out here. I still didn’t play the way I wanted to, but I played well enough to win,” he said.
