Bridgeman and Whitfield lead at The Blade

Jacob Bridgeman went 6 under in five holes to take the lead in the boys championship while Katie Whitfield birdied her final two holes to lead the girls competition at TheBlade Junior.

Bridgeman made the turn at even par and stayed even until the 12th hole.

The future Clemson golfer blitzed the next five holes with four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th.

Last year’s runner-up carded a 6-under par 65 to hold a two shot lead over Parker Lewis of Spartanburg.

CGA SC Junior Match Play champion Zack Gordon from Gaffney is in third place after shooting a 1-under par 70 at Thornblade.

Graham Corbin from Boiling Springs and Cody Transou from Gaffney are tied in fourth place.

Katie Whitfield won the CGA SC Junior Match Play championship last week and could be getting ready for two in a row.

The golfer from Clemson shot an even par round of 72 (girls par at Thornblade is 72) to hold a one shot lead over four golfers.

Emily Dunlap from Mauldin is joined in a second place tie with Jensen Castle of West Columbia, Rachel Rich from Mount Pleasant and MK Talledo of Blythwood.

The 9-hole divisions crowned champions. The Boys 12 & Under Division was won by David Oliver of Pageland.

Oliver topped Andrew Gregory in a playoff with a birdie.

The Girls 12 & Under Division was won by Abby Franks of Roebuck. Franks edged out Maddie Padgett by two strokes for the division title.

The highlight of the first day was the hole-in-one made by Drew Jeffords on the fourth hole.
