If you are wondering who is the hottest golfer in the Carolinas right now there is only one answer, RJ Keur.

The University of Alabama-Birmingham rising senior is on top of another leader board after spending most of the summer in that position.

Keur shot a 66 in the first round and a 67 in the second round on the par 70 Florence Country Club course to take a 1-shot lead at the half way point of the South Carolina Amateur.

The Summerville golfer won the CGA South Carolina Match Play championship and went wire to wire to claim the victory in the Carolinas Amateur.

In his last three stroke play events he has shot 7 rounds in the 60s and just one at even par. If you translate his scores in the CGA South Carolina Match Play championship from winning holes to shots you add four more rounds in the 60s.

“I kept giving myself chances and had another good finish to my first nine finishing birdie-birdie.  It gives me a little bit of a boost mentally,” Keur commented.

In second place is Ryan Marter of Columbia. The soon to be Wofford College golfer chased Keur for four rounds at the Carolinas Amateur before finishing in third place.

Marter shot rounds of 68 and 66 for a 134 total. His second round 4-under par 66 was the low round of the day. He trails Keur by one shot and is tied with first round leader Parks Prince from Longs and NC State golfer Justin Hood from St. Matthews.

A score of 8-over par 148 made the cut. Seventy-two golfers will play the weekend at The Florence Country Club.

Keur has a simple game plan for the weekend to see if he can win his third major championship of the summer.

“Fairways and greens is all I can say,” said the 36 hole leader.
