Clemson’s Doc Redman is the highest seeded player still in the hunt for the USGA Amateur championship. After stroke play qualifying Redman entered the main draw as the 62nd seed.

With 64 golfers in the match play bracket Redman has defeated the 3rd, 35th and 46th seeded players,

The Tiger golfer from Raleigh won two matches on Thursday to make it into the final 8 of the championship being played at Riviera in Los Angeles.

Redman won his first match of the day topping Walker Lee, an incoming Texas A&M golfer, 1 up. The two golfers played just about even through the match, but Redman was able to birdie the 17th hole and then parred the final hole for the win.

In the second match of the day Redman defeated John Oda from UNLV. Oda is ranked as the 32nd amateur golfer in the world.

Redman again made his move late in the round. He parred the 16th hole while Oda bogeyed the hole. Redman eagled the 17th hole to win the match 2 &1.

Redman next faces Australian golfer 38th seeded Travis Smyth in a quarter-final match on Friday.

Redman is the first Clemson golfer to advance to the final eight of the US Amateur since 2009 when Ben Martin and Phillip Mollica both were in the final eight.  Martin is the last Clemson golfer to reach the Final Four.
