Moody and Jones sign with Wofford

Levi Moody from Travelers Rest has signed to play college golf at Wofford.

The Wofford Terriers have added a pair of top-five South Carolina juniors to their golf team for next year.

Levi Moody from Travelers Rest is the fourth ranked junior in the state. He will be joined in Spartanburg by Walker Jones from Sumter who is ranked fifth.

“I’m really looking forward to being a Terrier,” said Moody. “I can’t wait for next year to get here,” he said.

Moody is the highest ranked junior golfer without a victory on his junior resume. The lack of a win could be a disappointment, but Moody points to his overall standing in the rankings with pride.

“I think what it shows is that I play consistent golf. “You don’t get to be fourth in the ranking without playing some pretty good golf,” he noted.

While there is not a first in the results column there is more than a handful of top-five and top-10 finishes.

“Finishing third in the state junior was the best golf I played. Qualifying for the Big I national was pretty good and finishing second in the Carolina PGA Junior was good considering the competition” he said.

Levi Moody is joined by his parents Melissa and Mark and his brothers Nicholas and Luke as he signed his NLI to attend Wofford.

Moody will play his final high school season for Travelers Rest this spring. He intends to keep working with his swing coach Tommy Biershenk to make sure his game is as strong as possible when he starts playing college golf.

The future Terrier also has the benefit of having a dad who is a very good golfer himself. In fact Moody and his father Mark won the SCGA Father and Son Championship three years ago at Chanticleer in Greenville.

“I remember my dad made a lot of birdies and I hit the ball pretty well. Having a father who is a golfer and understands the game has been very important for me. A lot of other kids have parents who don’t know the game. My dad has helped coach me all my life,” he said.

Walker Jones of Sumter won two junior events last summer. He will play college golf at Wofford next fall.

Jones played high school golf for Wilson Hall High School in Sumter.

This past summer he won the Upstate Junior championship at Smithfields in Easley and the Grant Bennett Invitational in Florence.

He also earned top-10 finishes at the Jimmy Self, The Creed Junior Invitational, the SCGA Junior and the CGA Junior Match Play to name a few.
