Clemson coach Kelley Hester talks about her team’s first round performance

The two highest ranked teams in the Clemson Invitational are tied for the lead after the first round.

Reona Hirai shot a 6-under par 66 to help Furman tie for the lead after the first round at the Clemson Invitational.

Furman is ranked seventh and Michigan State is ranked 11th and both teams posted rounds of 11-under par 277. The two teams have a three shot lead over Ohio State and a four shot lead over Clemson.

The Lady Paladins tied for their lowest round in program history at the tournament being played at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

Sarah Burnham of Michigan State has the individual lead. The Spartan’s golfer shot a 6-under par round of 66 to hold a one shot lead going into the second round.

Furman’s Reona Hirai is tied with Allyson Greer of Michigan State for second place.

Hirai moved up into the tie for second with four birdies on the back nine to shoot a 5-under par 67.

Sydney Legacy helped Clemson to fourth place after the first round at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

Natalie Srinivasan was tied for 6th, Alice Chen finished the first round tied for 10th and Jacqueline Bendrick was 15th  giving the Lady Paladins four players in the top-15.

Clemson finished their round with a flurry to climb into fourth place. The Tigers were lead by Sydney Legacy who birdied her final two holes to post a 4-under par round of 68.

Legacy finished one shot in front of teammate Kennedy Swan who shot a 69 to finish tied with two Ohio State golfers and Srinivasan.
