Schimpf wins WSCGA Foundation Junior

WSCGA Foundation Junior Champion Abigail Schimpf (r) topped Isabella Britt (l) for the title at Three Pines Country Club.

Abigail Schimpf led from start to finish to claim the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association Foundation Junior Championship.

The Daniel Island Club golfer opened the tournament with a 1-under par 71 to take a five shot lead into the final round.

Country Club of Spartanburg’s Isabella Britt carded a 4-over par 76 to hold second place in the tournament played at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff.

In the second round Schimpf put a solid 74 on the board to finish the tournament at 1-over par and a 7-shot victory.

Britt matched her first round 76 to hold off Greenville Country Club’s Peyton Gillespie for the runner-up spot. Gillespie shot rounds of 78 and 76 to finish at 154 in third place.

Kennedy Gooding of Hidden Valley and Madison Jordan of Carolina Upstate matched rounds of 77 and 79 to finish tied for fourth place at 156.

The tournament included four flights:

First Flight – 1) Abigail Schimpf (Daniel Island Club), 2) Peyton Gillespie (Greenville Country Club)

Second Flight – 1) Isabella Britt (CC of Spartanburg), 2) Kennedy Gooding (Hidden Valley CC)

Third Flight – 1) Madison Dixon (Woodfin Ridge) 2) Abigayle Hatcher (Three Pines)

Fourth Flight – 1) Abby Franks (Musgrove Mill) 2) Kate Spurling (Carolina Upstate)
