Georgia keeps the Cup

Luke Sullivan (left) from A.C. Flora High School topped William Jennings (right) from Christ Church High School by a shot to win the individual championship at the Georgia/ Florida Cup Matches.

Georgia had the better teams, but South Carolina had the better individual golfers as each state was able to take something away from the annual Georgia/South Carolina Cup matches.

This year’s Ryder Cup style matches were played at the Currahee Golf Club in Toccoa, Georgia. Georgia won the competition between the two states to retain the cup.

The series now stands with South Carolina leading 9.5 to Georgia’s 8.5.

Eight of the top high school teams in each state played in the tournament.

Two Palmetto State golfers battled for the individual title before Luke Sullivan from AC Flora was able to win the championship.

Sullivan shot rounds of 69 and 68 for a 7-under par 137 to finish one shot in front of William Jennings from Christ Church.

Georgia took the top three spots in the team competition.
