Tickets punched for SC High School Championships

There were no medals or trophies on the line as teams qualified for the state championship at five locations around South Carolina for next weeks state championships.

The qualifying tournaments, Upper and Lower State, only identify the teams and some individuals who will compete for the championships in the AAAAA, AAAA and AAA Classifications.

The Upper State AAA Qualifying tournament is set for Tuesday at Boscobel in Pendleton.

We appreciate the help we received from the tournament sponsors in getting these results. Here is what we were able to either receive or hunt down.

AAAAA Upper State

Blythewood continued their hold on to their status as the team to beat for the AAAAA title this year by shooting an impressive 281 total at the Chester Country Club.

The Bengals effort was led by Paige Paolucci and Carolina Hawkins who each posted rounds of 69.

Dorman’s Abbey Franks tied the two Blythewood golfers for low score and helped her Cavalier team to finish second in the qualifying tournament. Dorman shot a very solid 303, which in many years could have been the best score.

Qualifying teams for the AAAAA State Championship to be played at the Country Club of South Carolina on October 25th and 26th are:

1-Blythewood 281, 2-Dorman 303, 3-Byrnes 320, 4-Hanna 321, 5-Gaffney 335, 6-Spartanburg 340, 7- Mauldin and Boiling Springs Tied at 341,

Individual qualifying for the AAAAA Championship included Vivian Harris from Nation Ford, Aubree Clements from Hillcrest, Mallory Dover from Clover and Jayln Ownes from Riverside who carded a hole-in-one during the tournament.

Hanna High School will be in the AAAAA Championship tournament.

AAAA Lower State

The defending AAAA Champions from May River shot a 329 total at the Country Club of South Carolina to take the top spot in the qualifying tournament.

Team scores and individual qualifiers are below

AAAAA Lower State

Chapin finished on top of the Lower State AAAAA Qualifying tournament played at the Shaftsbury Glen Golf and Fish Club.

The top individual score was turned in by Adrian Anderson of St. James High School. Anderson shot a 6-under par 66 to win the unofficial lower state AAAAA individual championship.

AAAA Upper State

The Upper State AAAA Qualiftying tournament was played at The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood. Pickens edged out AC Flora by 3 shots to take the top spot in the Upper State Qualifying tournament.

Nikki Strandell from Travelers Rest finished two shots in front of Katherine Mann from Catawba Ridge as the top individual at the tournament.

AAA Lower State

The defending AAA champions from Gilbert finished on top of the Lower State AAA Qualifying tournament at Cheraw State Park Golf Course.

The Indians shot a 326 total to finish in front of Aynor at 330.

Qualifying teams included 1) Gilbert 326, 2) Aynor 330, 3) Waccamaw 343, 4) Fox Creek 365, 5) Loris 379.

The AAA State championship will be played at Coastal Carolina’s Hackler Course in Conway starting on Monday.
