Players of the Year

If the names were familiar, they should have been.

Sam Jackson and Eddie Hargett have both strung together multiple Player of the Year honors in recent seasons, continuing a run of sustained excellence.

Jackson was named SCGA Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season — the first golfer in association history to win the award four years in a row. This year’s title may have come down to a tap-in birdie on the final hole of the SCGA Amateur, where Jackson birdied the 72nd hole to claim his first State Amateur Championship by one shot. Hargett earned his fifth Senior Player of the Year honor. In addition to multiple two-man team victories, he also distinguished himself with a win in the South Carolina Senior Amateur Championship. Golf Day awards

Carolina Country Club already had two major SCGA events on its schedule when Executive Director Biff Lathrop contacted owner Tim Dunlap with an additional request.

After the SCGA lost two scheduled hosts for the State Amateur Championship with only a few months remaining, Lathrop asked Dunlap to consider hosting the event in July. Dunlap accepted, stepping in on short notice to host the championship and welcome the state’s top amateurs to Spartanburg — a commitment that earned the club the association’s appreciation and recognition.
