Four tied for Upstate Amateur lead at Green Valley

Four players are tied for the lead and 33 golfers shot par or better in the first round of the Upstate Amateur Championship.

Robbie Biershenk from Boiling Springs and Levi Joiner from Prosperity are joined by two college golfers on top after the first round of the tournament being played at Green Valley Country Club,

Joining the two Mid-Ams  at 5-under par 67 are Presbyterian’s A.J. Nolin and USC Aiken’s Bjorn Rosengren.

The first four have only a one stroke lead over three golfers tied at 4-under par 68.

2018 SCGA Player of the Year Robert Lutomski, Limestone assistant golf coach Cabrick Waters and incoming Blue Hose freshman Lleyton Renner are just off the pace.

The bunched up leader board includes 7 golfers at 69, 5 at 70, 6 at 71 and 7 more at even par.

Now in it’s seventh year the Upstate Amateur has become a popular event for college golfers as they get ready to start their season.

This year more than half of the competitors in the First Flight are college players.

The  full field of 135 golfers will be broken up into flights for the final round on Sunday.

Tournament leaders are set to tee off on #1 at Green Valley at 2 pm.
