Oceanside, Atlantic Collegiate and Johnsonville win state titles

Oceahside was led by medalist Blake Bocelli and Cannon Moriarity finished dirst and second to lead Oceanside to the 2026 AAA title.

A year ago Oceanside separated itself from the rest of Class 3A boys golf with a dominant 21-shot victory at the state championship.

This year the Landsharks discovered repeating is a little harder.

With Christ Church applying pressure throughout the tournament, Oceanside answered every challenge and successfully defended its championship at Diamondback Golf Club, finishing at 9-over-par and 11 shots ahead of the Cavaliers.

The same two programs that finished first and second a year ago again rose to the top of the classification, but this time Christ Church made Oceanside earn it.

Freshman Heyward Jennings helped set the tone early for the Cavaliers, firing an opening-round 68 — the lowest round of the tournament — to briefly put Christ Church in position to challenge for the title.

But Oceanside answered with the depth and balance that has now produced back-to-back state championships.

Senior Blake Bocelli captured medalist honors at 5-under-par after rounds of 69 and 70, while teammate Canon Moriarty finished second individually at even-par as the Landsharks steadily pulled away during the final round.

Christ Church placed three golfers inside the top five individually with Henry Wofford finishing third, John Waldrop fourth and Jennings fifth.

Powdersville finished third in the team standings followed by Newberry and Chapman.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy also dominated the individual standings.

Freshman Jackson McCormick claimed medalist honors at 4-under-par after rounds of 71 and 69, while teammate Nick Tarbert finished second at 1-over-par and Elijah Hawkinberry placed third at 2-over.

The Flashes edged Bamberg-Ehrhardt by a single shot, 345-346, while Dixie finished third and Hannah-Pamplico placed fourth.

St. John’s freshman Davis Crowley earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 74. Abbeville golfers Grady Overholt and Carter Beiler tied for second at 80, while Johnsonville’s Wes Sylvester finished fourth at 81.
