Fall weather arrived in the Upstate of South Carolina with much cooler than normal temperatures and enough of a breeze to make golfers give a little extra thought to club selection during the second round of the Golfweek Carolina Country Club Amateur in Spartanburg.
University of Virginia golfer Riley Smyth increased her lead to 5-shots after the second round .
Smyth opened the 54 hole tournament with a 3-under par 69 and followed it up with a second round even par 72.
The UVA Cavalier was the only golfer to shoot even par as none of the 34 golfers in the field were able to break par.
Penn State’s Mathilde Delavallade matched her opening round 1-over par 73 in the second round to pass three golfers and move up to second place, five shots behind the leader.
Furman’s Madison Moosa carded a 3-over par 75 to drop a spot and be alone in third place.
Sarah Willis, another Penn State golfer, is in fourth place after shooting rounds of 74 and 76 for a 6-over par 150.

Phoebe Brinker from Duke is tied with Willis for fourth place after shooting a second round 78.

Hometown favorite Becca Earl from Wofford College is in eighth place with a two-day total of 153.

The mens side of the tournament is led after two rounds by Joe McCarthy.
The Cincinnati University golfer shot a 3-under par 69 for the best round of the day to move up one spot and take a 3-shot lead going into the final round.
Gamecock golfer Liam Shinn fell off the first round lead he shared with Coastal Carolina golfer Brady Hinkle after shooting a 1-over 73.
Hinkle dropped a litte further back after carding a 3-over par 75 to finish the second round in a 3-way tie for third.
Wofford golfer Carlos Garre and Tennessee Tech’s Chance Taylor along with Hinkle all stand at 1-over par 145.
The final round tee times for the women begin at 7:30 am with the men follwoing along at 9:20 am.
