Last year Upstate teams dominated the state high school championships winning every one of the five classifications.
This year the first team to win a championship in the state and bring a title back to the Upstate are the Panthers from Hampton Park Christian School in Greenville.
The team won the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools state championship at the Columbia Country Club.
The Panthers shot a 343 total to finish in front of Bob Jones Academy, Victory Christian from North Augusta and Oakwood Christian School from Anderson.
“We were undefeated during the regular season and our guys played great to win the state title,” said Jeremy Revis the Hampton Park Coach.
There are 12 golf playing schools around the state in the Association. The field for the state championship was determined by a team’s stroke average.
Hampton Park had the best average during the regular season and continued to play well in the championship.
Jack Gibbs from Victory Christian was the medalist shooting a 76 to win the tournament.
The Hampton Park state championship team included Owen Kinnunen, Lee Earl Jackson, Pete Revis, Ryder Seppala and Jack Scelsi.
Team members who did not play in the championship included Grant Canfield, Jayden Williams and Gavin Burnett.
