Future Clemson golfer Sydney Roberts from Chesnee and Karlee Vardas from Lexington share the lead after the first round of the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association Amateur championship.
The state championship is being played on the Old Hickory golf course at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
Roberts bounced back from a two-over front nine to card four birdies on the back to finish her first round at 2-under par 70.
Vardas, playing the back-nine first, got to 3-under par before bogeys on number 7 and number 8 dropped her a shot off the lead.

The rising sophomore at Georgia Southern birdied her final hole to share the lead with Roberts.
Furman’s Sophia Burnett, who last week finished third at the CGA Women’s championship, birdied her final hole to pull within a shot of the leaders going into the second round.
Catherinel Shealy from Cobblestone Park and Natalie Huff from the Wildwood Club share the lead in the State Division.
Louise Givens of the Debordieu Club has the lead in the Super-Senior Division.
