Dustin Adair kept the big numbers off his scorecard and broke out of a first round tie to take the lead at the Spartanburg County Amateur being played at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff.
Adair held a share of the lead with Nelson Dickson after the first round. He shot a second round 3-under par 69 to go with his opening round 7-under par 65 to take over the lead.
Adair carded 5-birdies and a pair of bogeys to start Sunday’s final round with a 2-shot cushion at 10-under par.
Three-time champion Kevin Roberts shot his second straight 4-under par 68 to get closer to the leader. Roberts won his last County title in 2020.
It has been a little longer since Robbie Biershenk was the Spartanburg County champion.
Biershenk was a two-time County champion with back to back wins in 1998 and 1999.
“Shank” shot the best round of the day on Saturday.
His 7-under par 65, matched Dickson’s first round 65 for the best round of the tournament, so far, and Biershenk is tied with Roberts.
Dickson, who shared the first round lead, was not able to keep up with the new leader.
In the first round, the defending Greenville County Amateur champion eagled the second hole to jump start his round.
On Saturday, Dickson bogeyed the hole and finished with an even par 72 to remain at 7-under par and 3-shots behind Adair.
A pair of two time champions Tyler Macolly and defending champion Trevor Phillips both finished the second round in the top-10, but need to make up a lot of ground to catch Adair.
