There were sill a lot of golfers to follow Barth and a couple of them edged ahead of the Paladin later in the round, but both Barth and the Furman team are on the heels of East Tennessee State going into the second round on Monday.

East Tennessee State has a 3-shot lead over the Paladins and Chattanooga.

A pair of ETSU golfers, Archie Davis and Matty Dodd-Berry, share the lead after shooting rounds of 6-under par at the Reynolds Plantation Oconee Course.

Tigers improve a spot at the ACC

Clemson got a 4-under par 68 from Andrew Swanson to help lift the team a spot at the finish of the ACC Championship.

Swanson finished in a tie for 14th, but by boosting the team just one place the Tigers have kept the door open for an invitation to NCAA Regional play.

Finishing ninth is not what the Tigers were hoping for, but the move up one place and the result of the days play gave Clemson a winning record on the season.

It wasn’t by much, but the Tigers could not advance to NCAA Regional play without a 500 record or better.

For the purposes of an NCAA selection Clemson finished the season with a 68-66-1 record.

Georgia Tech won the tournament by 16 shots over Wake Forest and the automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.

Clemson now has to wait for the selection committee to pick the at-large teams for the field.

If the Tigers are selected they are expected to play in the Regional they are hosting at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in May.
