Brad Sill credited his win at the Southern Oaks Open to his performance on the greens on Sunday.
“I finally got some putts to drop,” he said.
They dropped at the right time, too.
Sill trailed by two strokes with four holes to play, but birdied three of those four to come home with the tournament victory.
“I’d been making some all day, but it was good to make those when I needed to,” he said.
Sill shot 75-69 over the two day event to edge second place Perry Hartin.
And while his putter was hot, Sill’s performance over the last four holes didn’t include a make of more than 10 feet. That 10-footer came at No. 16, and came in the midst of tap-in birdies at the two par-5s on the back at 15 and 18.
The close one didn’t go.
“I hit it to four feet at No. 17, and missed it,” Sill said with a chuckle.
It worked out for another win at Southern Oaks for Sill. In addition to multiple Opens, he’s won Mountain Tour and Upstate Tour events at the Easley course.
“I just really like the course,” he said. “It sets up well for me, I play it well, and I just enjoy it.”
Sill’s also enjoying a hot start to the summer.
He and Marcus Grumbles partnered to advance to the final four of the SCGA Four Ball Championship at Musgrove Mill, and he won a qualifying event for spots in the Carolinas Amateur and the SC Match Play last week at Willow Creek.
“I’ve been playing pretty well,” Sill said. “We’ve had a couple of good weeks.”
John Tracey finished as Low Senior in the field, with Bobby Tripp as Low Super Senior.
Mike Hartin won the Second Flight ahead of Sam Tracey, Robert Burgess edged out Scott Parham in the Third Flight, and Jeff Holder and Terry King finished first and second in the Fourth Flight.
