It is not unusual to see a Biershenk among the leaders at Upstate weekend tournaments.
It is unusual to see the two brothers, Robbie and Nick playing together in a two-man tournament.
It probably is good for the other amateurs playing the weekend circuit the brothers don’t team up very often.

At the Upstate Fall Two-Man, the brothers came from two shots off the lead in the final round to take the win. The Biershenks shot an amazing 16 under par final round to top the field at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff.
“We are brothers, but we brother-in-lawed it around here,” said Robbie Biershenk. “Nicky played great on the front and I played pretty good on the back,” he said.
As well as the two brothers were playing, the team of Colby Patton and Zach Bishop caught the leaders after the first nine holes and matched the brothers until the final hole.
While the Biershenk’s kept up the pace, there was almost no difference in the way the two teams scored on the final nine holes. The Biershenks had a few more birdies while Patton and Bishop had 4 eagles on the final day.
Patton and Bishop played in the grouping directly in front of the Biershenks and Robbie Biershenk was convinced it helped the brothers maintain their focus all through the final round.
“No question it helped us. When we could see them and it looked like they were celebrating an eagle we knew it could get close at the end,” said Robbie Biershenk.
The difference came down to the final hole. Bishop and Patton needed a birdie to take the lead.
The two also were convinced they needed the birdie because the Biershenks’ ‘would get their birdie on the hole and it could mean being in a playoff for the win.
Patton and Bishop both missed the green with their second shot on the long par-5, but both were able to scramble from difficult lies around the green to par the hole and hold the clubhouse lead, at least for a few minutes.
The Biershenks also had to scramble around the green to convert a birdie opportunity for the win, locking up the win with their 9th birdie of the round.
The brothers posted a final round total of 16 under par and a tournament best score of 26-under par to win by a shot over Bishop and Patton.
“Nicky made some 20 footers on the front and we had some momentum going to the back and we kept it going when I chipped in on 12 and 15,” said Robbie Biershenk.
When the round started the brothers talked about the possibility of getting a birdie on every hole. They didn’t get to that goal but they never were close to making a bogey.

“Sometimes you can play a round and you may score good, but you just don’t think you got everything out of your round. Not the case for us today, we got everything out of this round” said Nick Biershenk.
Just another shot back was the team of Brad Sill and Reed Bentley. A birdie on their final hole helped them to finish in third place.
First round leaders Will Woodard and Davis West finished in fourth and Arron Setro and Peyton Whitlock in fifth place.
There are two more two-man tournaments left to be played this fall in the Upstate and you might think the momentum of the brothers win would have them anxious to team up again.
“I committed to play at Musgrove Mill with another partner,” said Robbie. “I was asked a couple of months ago to play in the Chanticleer tournament so we both will be playing in the next two tournaments, but not teamed up together,” offered Nick Biershenk.
The brothers do plan to team up in an attempt to qualify for the USGA Four-Ball championship. There are two regional qualifying tournaments in the Carolinas.
“This weekend was special for us. It is always great to play with Nicky and for us to play this well together, we will remember this one for a log time,” concluded Robbie Biershenk.
