Chesnee nears Three-peat

Chesnee is halfway to where they want to be.

In the 2A/1A state championship at Lancaster Golf Club, the two-time defending state champion Eagles are in control after Day One action, firing a 303 and leading by 46 shots over second-place Christ Church.

Olivia Roberts shot a two-under par 70 to lead all individuals, with the only red number for a sub-par round on the board.

In fact, the Eagles put up two of the only three colored numbers on the day, as teammate Addy Parker fired an even-par round of 72 to stand tied for second individually with Academic Magnet’s Akiera Sanchez after the first round.

Abigail Watson shot 80 and Olivia Shields fired an 81 as all four Chesnee golfers are within 11 shots of the individual lead.

Oceanside Collegiate is third at 354, St. Joseph’s is fourth at 376, and Academic Magnet rounds out the top five at 387.

Tuesday’s second round will begin at 8 a.m.
