May River dominated the 4A championships at Sauda Valley, shooting a two-day total of 646 to claim the 4A title.

The Sharks’ Claire Green was the only golfer to post a total under par in the event, shooting 70-71-141 to claim medalist honors.

Robbin Zetrouer shot 167, Ava Cunningham carded a 168, and Hailey Zhao shot 170 to help lead May River.

Catawba Ridge shot a 678 to finish in second place, led by All-State players Brooke Millhouse and Reagan Lynch. South Aiken was third at 686.

Pickens, last year’s champion and the tournament host, finished fourth. It’s a finish that Blue Flame coach Lem Blackwell said he’s proud of.

“We heard a statistic today that since the inception of our program, we’ve never finished lower than sixth in the state,” he said. “We took a hit last year losing some important seniors, and we’re losing a 12 year old and a 13 year old in this thing. We found our way to fourth place, and I’m just so proud of them to be there.”

Pickens’ Natalie Turner finished third overall and joined Green, Millhouse and Lynch on the All-State team.Other All-State players were Lucy Beckham’s Grayson Bonner, South Aiken’s Allie Thomas, North Myrtle Beach’s Caitlyn Ferry, Myrtle Beach’s Yana Jeram, A.C. Flora’s Merritt Barbrey, and Hilton Head’s Brooke Niclaus.

Blackwell said he thought the event went well for the entire field.

“We had great weather, I had a host of parents that helped us who were tremendous. Omer Waddles came of his own volition to come up and be our rules official, Blackwell said. “Everybody pitched in. That’s what it takes to make it successful, and what made it a great event for everybody. It was great.
