There is the Grand Slam and the Tiger Slam, now we need some spiffy alliteration to describe Todd White’s latest accomplishment in Amateur golf.

The Spartanburg High School teacher won the British Senior Amateur by a shot at the event held in Saunton. England .

The South Carolina Golf Association Hall of Famer now has a book end for the US Senior Amateur title he won last summer.

“Winning is obviously a thrill but, whatever happened this week was always going to be a fabulous experience,”said White.

White was on his first trip to Europe. Add in the fact he had virtually no experience playing the “links” type golf course.

“I have had a little experience back home playing courses like Chambers Bay [in Washington] where you often have to run the ball into greens, but nothing like this week. Saunton is just a superb golf course,” he noted.

White didn’t use a local caddy, instead his fiance, Sherri Jacobs, carried his bag and made the tournament a team effort.

“Her companionship and our conversations, allowed me not to get caught up in the moment. It helped me relax. I couldn’t have done it without her,” said White.

White opend the tournament with the lead after the first round. He was the only golfer to card two sub 70 rounds in the typical blustery English weather.

White’s first round 68 was followed up by rounds of 78 – 76 – 69 to finish at 291, a shot in front of the defending champion Brent Paterson from Australia.

The former Furman All-American is now the eighth golfer to win both the US and British Senior Amateur titles.

He joins the legendary Paul Simson from Raleigh as being two Carolinians to accomplish the feat.

“That’s some rather nice company to join,” said White.

In addition to the two individual senior titles, White has a third USGA Major championship when he and his partner Nathan Smith won the USGA’s inaugural Four-Ball championship.

The win puts a few more tournament dates on the two-time SCGA Amateur champions schedule.

He will next play in the British Amateur at Cournustie in a couple of weeks. When back in the US, White will play in the 124th U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota and then defend his U.S. Senior Amateur crown at The Honors Course in Tennessee

Before he returns to the classroom in the fall he will play in the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Kinloch Golf Club in Virginia.
