No Shivering at Greer as tournament golf returns in the Upstate

You can’t blame upstate golfers for hibernating through much of this winter. There have not been many acceptable days to play golf.

Local clubs have started to scheduled events in the last weeks of winter.

The Tyger River Shiver was the first of several to play and the weather was finally cooperative.

The two-man event had a full field which included several of the better weekend competitors from all over the Upstate.

Patrick Stephenson and Jacob Calamaro led after an opening round 59.

It gave the team a one shot lead over the team of Brad Sill and Brandon Masters. Several other teams were another shot back.

In the final round, Stephenson and Calamaro birdied their first three holes for the second day in a row.

Masters and Sill birdied their first four holes to pull even before the leaders carded two more birdies to turn at 20 under par with a three shot lead.

It took Sill and Masters all the way to the 17th hole before they managed to catch the leaders again.

The teams birdie on the 17th hole tied the leaders going to the final hole.

Stephenson and Calamaro finished their round with a birdie while Sill and Masters recorded a bogey, it was their only bogey of the tournament.

The final hole birdied gave Stephenson and Calamaro the win by two shots.

The best round of the tournament was turned in by the team of Rod Overholt and Nick Biershenk. The two joined to shoot a 14-under par round to finish in third place at 20-under par.
