Palmetto State teams begin NCAA Regional play

Teams from South Carolina are in action in the Regional round of the NCAA Golf Championship.

Bremerton Regional

USC Senior Nathan Franks finished play in the PGA Tour’s Myrtle Beach Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Franks was playing in the event as an amateur. He made the cut and finished in a tie for 37th place in his first professional championship.

Late on Sunday afternoon the Dorman High grad had to catch a plane, fly across the country and be ready to play in the first round of the Bremerton Regional.

Considering the circumstances Franks 2-over par 74 was a pretty good round.

Frank’s Gamecock team was the highest ranked Palmetto State team entering NCAA Regional play. South Carolina was ranked 20th at the end of the regular season.

Two-time South Carolina Golf Association Amateur champion Zach Adams and Frankie Harris shot opening rounds of even par 72 to help USC to seventh place in the Regional.

Florida shot 9-under par to hold a 7-shot lead over Arizona State.

Auburn Regional

The Upstate Spartans are making their first trip to the NCAA post season after winning the Big South Conference championship for the first time.

The Spartans are traveling in some pretty fast company. The host team #1 Auburn leads the Regional at 13 under par with UCLA in second place eight shots behind the Tigers.

Upstate struggled and shot a team total of 21 over par.

The top Upstate golfers were Alec Prentiss and Jackson Stone who both finished their first round at 3-over par.

College of Charleston is also in the Region and the Cougars are 8th after the first round shooting a 9-over par total.

Tallahassee Regional

The Paladins are in 7th place after the first round shooting a 2-over par total.

The Furman Paladins are in the Tallahassee Regional begin hosted by Florida State.

Trey Diehl shot a 1-under par 71 to be the top Paladin in the field is tied for 16th while Will Morlan carded an even par 72.

Amherst Regional

Clemson’s Andrew Swanson, playing as an individual entrant improvoed his score in the second round.
The Clemson senior shot a second round 74 after opening with a 77 is now at 11 over par and is tied for 61st place with two other golfers going into the final round.

Jackson Van Paris from Vanderbilt has the individual lead at 9-under par while Tennessee has a 1 shot lead over Vanderbilt in the team standings.
