Anderson drops to third after second round at NCAA

Anderson dropped out of the lead at the NCAA Division II Women’s Championship on Wednesday.

The Trojans held a one-shot lead after the first round but recorded a 1-over-par second round, falling back to third place.

Kennedy McGaha, whose score did not count in the first round, bounced back with a 6-under-par 66 to keep the Trojans near the top of the leaderboard.

California State University San Marcos leads after the second round, bolstered by an 8-under-par 64 from their top golfer, Madison Murr.

CSU-SM is 12-under-par through two rounds and holds a three-shot lead over fourth-ranked Dallas Baptist and a five-shot advantage over Anderson.

Thursday’s third round of stroke play will determine the individual champion and the eight teams that will advance to the medal/match-play playoff for the national championship.

Anderson has a 12-shot cushion over Henderson State, which currently holds the eighth and final qualifying position.

The Trojans entered the tournament as the top-ranked team in the nation. After two rounds, six of the eight teams currently in qualifying position for the medal/match-play portion are ranked in the top 10 of the Division II poll.
