The final round of the Greenville County and Spartanburg County Amateur Championships will be played Sunday, and while both titles are still up for grabs, the paths to victory look very different.
Greenville: Brock in Command
At the Greenville County Amateur, it’s looking like Danny Brock’s world — and the rest of the field is just playing in it.
The two-time champion has posted back-to-back stellar rounds of 63 and 66, opening a commanding seven-shot lead over former champion Cole Patterson heading into Sunday’s final round at Fox Run.
While no one expects Brock to “pull a Greg Norman” and collapse — referencing Norman’s infamous loss of a six-shot lead at the 1996 Masters — the comparison comes to mind only because it has happened before.
But probably not this time.
If Brock simply stays at or near par, there’s not much the rest of the field can do except battle for second place. Patterson would likely need a round of 64 just to make things interesting.
Chasing from third place, Owen Kinnunen, Andy Mitchell, and Nolan Marks would need miracle rounds in the 63 range, plus a little help from the leader. Some in the field have joked this year’s event should be renamed the Danny Brock Invitational.
Final round tee times begin at 1:10 PM at Fox Run. The leaders in the Senior Division, being played as part of the County Amateur, will tee off a few minutes later.
Lee Palms leads the senior field by one shot over Duff Wagner, with former champion Yancey Johnson and Ron Clontz still within striking distance.

Spartanburg: A Tight Race to the Finish
While the Greenville tournament may already have a clear frontrunner, the Spartanburg County Amateur is shaping up to be a nail-biter — possibly coming down to the final hole or even heading into a playoff.
Blake Kelly held onto his first-round lead and will start Sunday’s final round at Woodfin Ridge with a three-shot advantage over two Brads: defending champion Brad Sill and former Erskine golfer Brad Thorne.
Two-time champion Trevor Phillips sits at 2-under-par and will have the advantage of competing on his home course. Meanwhile, former Spartanburg County Senior Champion Max Fain surged into contention with a second-round 3-under-par 69.
The final group — Kelly, Sill, Thorne, and Phillips — tees off at 1:00 PM at Woodfin Ridge.
