Some golf tournaments are won with a spectacular shot. Others are earned through steady, disciplined play. But sometimes — and this year’s Greenville County Amateur might be one of those — a tournament is won the moment the venue is announced.

This year’s championship returned to Fox Run Country Club in Simpsonville — a course Danny Brock knows like the back of his hand. And by the time the final putt dropped, Brock had made it official: a third Greenville County Amateur title, earned in dominant fashion.

Brock carded rounds of 63, 66, and 66 for a 21-under-par total of 195, finishing eight shots ahead of the field. It was his second County Amateur win at Fox Run, and third overall.

“I’ve been playing Fox Run since I was 14,” Brock said. “Everyone struggles with the greens, but I kind of know them by memory. I know what it’s doing before I even look at it.”

“I played the weekend of my birthday in early June, and didn’t touch a club again until Friday,” he said. “I just wanted to enjoy a couple days with the guys.”

Despite playing just a handful of rounds each year — and not picking up a club until the day before the first round — Brock was in full control from start to finish.

Brock opened the tournament with a blistering 63 on Friday, followed by back-to-back 66s. His chip-in eagle on the fifth hole Sunday erased any early nerves and kept challengers at bay.

“If I could put a six in front of my score each day, I knew I’d have a good chance,” Brock said.

Recent Blue Ridge High graduate Owen Kinnunen, fresh off winning the CGA Carolina Boys Championship, finished second. The future Southern Wesleyan University golfer held off a late charge from three-time champion Chris Eassy, who fired a 64 in the final round to take third.

Henry Hall and Nolan Marks rounded out the top five.

Brock’s schedule these days is more family than fairways. He works in commercial real estate and spends most weekends with his wife Liz and their two young children, Addison and Baker.

“If I play six or eight times a year, I’m not mad about it,” he said with a grin. “But I’ll always try to make time for the County Amateur. It’s local, affordable, and just a great group of guys.”

Brock isn’t ruling out more tournaments in the future — but for now, he’s happy knowing he still has the game.

“Sometimes it just clicks at the right time,” he said. “And when it does, it’s nice to know I can still do it.”\
