Burnet wins WSCGA Open champ

Sophia Burnet took a step in the direction of playing professional golf with a win in the Women’s South Carolinas Golf Association Open Championship played at Coblestone Park.

Lauren Clark, an All-American from the University of Kansas, took a one-shot lead after an opening round of 3 under par 68 (-3). The leaderboard was packed, with five other golfers who managed to past under par rounds, including Burnett.

In the final round, Burnett pulled away from the pack.

She shot a 31 (-4) on the front nine on Sunday, which included birdies on the Championship’s two hardest holes (#3 and #6)..

Burnett closed with a 67 (-4), finishing the tournament with a total of 208 (-5) and securing a 5-stroke victory in the South Carolina Women’s Open.

A pair of Clemson golfers, Katherine Shuster finished second, with Ivey Schultz taking fourth place in the amateur division,

In the Professional Division, Lauren Clark held on to win by 2 strokes, finishing with a total score of 213 (E) for the Championship.

Leta Lindley fired rounds of 65 and 68 in the First and Final Rounds to capture the 2025 Senior Championship.

Lindley edged out Moira Dunn-Bohls and Jackie Gallagher-Smith by one stroke.

Lindley, the inaugural Senior Champion in 2017, now adds this victory to an impressive resume that includes the 2024 US Senior Women’s Open Championship.

In the Senior Amateur Division, Kathy Hartwiger dominated, winning over defending champion Lea Venable and Clara Rodriguez

 Hartwiger posted rounds of 74-72, with a birdie in each round and no double bogeys. Congratulations to Kathy on her impressive victory!
