Tournament golfers often refer to Saturday as “Moving Day.” A strong round won’t win a championship, but it can put a player in position to make a run on Sunday.

If that’s the case, Friday was the day golfers in the 95th South Carolina Amateur Championship at the Quixote Club in Sumter packed their bags for the move.

Just as after the opening round, a former Clemson golfer and a current college player share the lead heading into Saturday’s third round.

A second-round 4-under-par 66 moved Austin Langdale into a share of the lead with former Dorman standout Casey Kosney. Kosney, now playing at the University of Colorado.

Kosney backed up his opening-round 69 with a 66 to be the only golfer to post two rounds in the 60s through the first 36 holes.

The first-round co-leaders haf trouble keeping pace.

Greenville’s Crawford Reeves fell into a tie for 23rd after a second round that included eight bogeys. Ashton Eubanks of Lexington also lost ground. The Winthrop golfer carded four bogeys and a double bogey to head into the weekend tied for 11th.

Several players made significant moves up the leaderboard with low rounds on Friday.

Clemson’s Tip Price improved by nine shots from his opening round, climbing 66 places into a tie for 23rd.

Easley’s Dylan Park, a Winthrop golfer, surged 57 spots after firing a second-round 66, an eight-shot improvement over Thursday.

Inman’s Carter Davis continued the parade of low rounds, posting a 4-under 66 to jump 38 places into seventh.

Those weren’t the only golfers to put themselves back into contention.

Defending champion Sam Jackson from Lexington was two-over par at the end ofthe first round. His 4-underr par 66 moved him up 26 spots into a tie for fourth.

The best round of the tournament, however, belonged to Sacha Robinson. Robinson enters the weekend after shooting the best round of the tournament, a five-under par 65.

Last spring Robinson helped Florida A&M capture the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship while earning medalist honors.

Two South Carolina high school state champions also worked their way closer to the leaders.

Blue Ridge and future USC golfer Dawson Szabo, the defending Class 4A state champion, shot a 68 to join Jackson in a tie for fourth. Dorman graduate Will Ruth, the reigning Class 5A champion, carded a 67 to move up 34 spots and finish the day just outside the top 10..

The cut fell at 8-over par, with 66 golfers advancing to Saturday’s third round.

Because of the threat of the typical South Carolina afternoon thunderstorms, Saturday’s third round will begin at 8 a.m., with the leaders scheduled to tee off at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The public is invited to the course to watch the championship.
