SC Golf Coaches April Poll

The South Carolina High School Golf Coaches have been on the money with their ranking of high school teams in the four classifications so far this year.

The latest poll is out and there were not many changes among the top teams in each classification.

The defending AAAA state champions from A.C. Flora in Columbia have led the classification in every poll this year with a red-hot Greenville Red Raider team in second trying to catch the Falcons.

Last year’s AAA runner-up has been on the top of their classification since the start of the season as well.

Charleston’s Bishop England leads Oceanside and Wooduff as Region tournaments begin next week.

It is a given that Christ Church is the odds on favorite to win another state title in the AA-A so it is no surprise to see the Cavaliers on top of their classification

The one classification that has seen some movement has been AAAAA.

Boiling Springs, the defending champions, started the year on top of the classification, but Chapin has played well and took over the top spot.

The Bulldogs have dropped down to third.

On the strength of their win in the Spartanburg County High School championship the Spartanburg Vikings moved up right behind the Eagles into second place.

A county championship has also helped Mauldin and showed the Mavericks could be a serious challenger in the AAAAA championship chase.

While Greenville, Christ Church and Eastside are not in Mauldin’s classification. They will not compete against each other for a state title, but finishing in front of those three Greenville County teams in the County Championship earned the Mavericks a move up to fourth place in the AAAAA Poll.

Region championships are on the schedule for the next week with Upper and Lower State qualifying tournaments another week away.

State championships for AAAAA, AAAA and AAA will b played on May 16th and 17th around the state.

The Class A championship is scheduled for May 9th at the Cheraw State Park course.
