Bridgeman in contention at Rex Hospital Open

Jacob Bridgeman’s 5-under par round of 67 earned him an invitation to the press room. The ACC Player of the Year is tied for 7th place after the first two rounds of his first professional tournament.

In just his second professional round Inman’s Jacob Bridgeman is just 3-shots off the lead at the Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh.

Bridgeman used one of his sudden streaks to go 5-under par in four holes on the front nine at the Wakefield Plantation course.

Last year’s ACC Champion, from Clemson, finished as the second ranked golfer on the PGA Tour University final standings last week.

His second place finish guaranteed him exemptions into the remaining Korn-Ferry Tour events this year, but not the one he is currently playing.

Bridgeman’s exemption does not start until next week at the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greenville and Spartanburg. Bridgeman won a Monday qualifying tournament to make the field this week in Raleigh.

Only a bogey on the 18th hole kept Bridgeman from being tied for second instead of tied for seventh place with four other golfers.

He has carded rounds of 67 and 66 for his 9-under par 133 total.

Georgia grad, Trent Phillips from Inman, failed to make the cut shooting and even par second round.

After holding the lead for a time during the first round Carson Young from Pendleton also missed the cut at 3-under par 139.

Davis Thompson has the second round lead at 12-under par. He is in front of a group of five golfers at 10-under par.

South Carolina grad Ryan Hall, like Bridgeman, earned a spot in the field when he also shot a 63 at a second Monday qualifying site.

Hall has posted rounds of 68 and 70 for a 138 total to make the cut and play the weekend.

Morgan misses the cut at the US Open

Furman’s Anna Morgan has played some amazing golf this spring on her way to being named the SoCon Player of the Year and finishing 9th at the recent NCAA Championship.

Morgan also qualified for a spot in the US Open field at Pine Needles in Pinehurst, but her time at the national championship ended after the first two rounds.

Morgan shot a second round 73 to finish her two rounds at 7-over par 149.

The Lady Paladin rising senior finished tied with the reigning US Amateur Champion Jensen Castle from Columbia, four shots below the cut line.

First round leader Mina Harigae is tied with Minjee Lee at 9-under par for the lead going into the weekend.
