The South Carolina High School season is underway and based on the first couple of events it looks like the battle for the AAAA championship could be the classification to watch.
South Aiken was ranked fourth in the coaches pre-season poll, but the Thoroughbreds will probably move up the next time the poll is issued.
South Aiken won the Battle of the Dam at the Golden Hills Golf and Country Club.
The winning team shot a 19-over par 303 to win the title by two shots over the AAAA defending state champions from AC Flora.
The Thoroughbreds were led by Miles Eubanks who carded a `1-under par 70 to finish in third place.
Flora’s Charles Cauthen had the best day. He turned in a 4-under par 67 scorecard for the win.
Chapin’s Charles Cline finished as the runner-up, one shot behind Cauthen.
After South Aiken and Flora the top five included Chapin, Lexington and Central.
