Chesnee notched another win with a victory at Southern Oaks in the Wren Lady Hurricane event.

There’s still some uncertainty about where Chesnee golf will end up in the girls state playoffs, with Class AA and Class A numbers fluctuating.

One thing IS certain, though. Wherever the Eagles end up, the opposition better bring their A game.

Chesnee won its second major tournament of the year at Southern Oaks on Monday, shooting a 305 to win the Lady Hurricane Invitational hosted by Wren.

Olivia Roberts won medalist honors for the third time this season, shooting a 68. Olivia Shields added a 78, Addy Parker shot 79, and Abigail Watson carded an 80 for Chesnee.

“The girls played really good today,” Chesnee coach Kyle Scruggs said. “Olivia Shields and Abigail shot their personal bests. At the same time, we had a few three putts, and actually could’ve done a little better. We made a couple of mistakes on the greens. But I can’t ask for much better than 305. We’ve only ever done better once, when we won state with Sydney (Roberts). So, we weren’t too far off a school record.”

Roberts’ day gave her a medal to go with the ones she’s already claimed at the Lady Blue Jacket Invitational at Aynor and at the Lady Rebel Invitational at River Falls.

“She just hits it so straight, she chips and putts well, and she’s just very consistent,” Scruggs said of Roberts. She’s playing great right now.”

Olivia Roberts won the Wren tournament for her third individual victory of the season.

T.L. Hanna was the team runner-up, led by Marissa Scaletta’s 73. Sierra Schulze shot 81, Serra Erlenkeuser fired an 82, and Anaston Bell shot 88 to round out the scoring for the Yellow Jackets.

Seneca was third at 331, with Ansley Bryson’s 72 leading the way. Pickens was fourth, led by Natalie Turner’s 74, while Peyton O’Brien shot 71 to lead Daniel to a fifth-place finish.

As the season kicks into high gear, Scruggs is happy to see the Eagles improving.

“Everybody’s playing just a little better than they were early,” he said. “We’re just cleaning the short game up a little, and getting better at judging speed on the greens so we don’t throw away as many three-putts. But I really can’t ask much more from the girls. They’re working hard every day, they work on the weekends, they’re taking swing lessons, and they’re doing everything they can do to play their best golf.”
