Clemson coach Kelley Hester had to experience some deja vu as she watched the Tigers play in the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall near Charleston.

The first tournament of the new season looked a lot like the last regular season tournament of last year (Clemson Invitational) as Clemson, LSU and Ol Miss battled for the tournament title in both events.

The pre-season 25th ranked Tigers led #1 LSU and #3 Ole Miss going into the final round.

On the last day the Rebels pulled away from Clemson, LSU and the field with a 13-under par final round to win the tournament over LSU with Clemson finishing third

It was the same order of finish as it was at the Clemson Invitational, but this time is was the Tigers in the hunt not as the upstart team trying to prove they belonged with the top teams in the college rankings, instead as the defending ACC Champions showing they belong.

Clemson’s Savannah Grewal shot a final round 5-under par 66 to finish tied for medalist honors with the #1 ranked amateur in the world, Ingrid Lindblad from LSU.

The victory was Grewal’s first college win and comes after she won an LPGA Q-School qualifying tournament.

The Tiger senior broke several individual scoring records and her 20 birdies in the tournament set a new school record.

Grewal’s win was supported by a seventh place finish for Annabelle Pancake and a 15th place finish for Chloe Holder as the Tigers posted scores in the 270s for the first time in all three rounds of a tournament,

Clemson is off until October 2nd when they play in the Blessings tournament in Arkansas.
