More than a handful of successful PGA Tour players have about the same answer when asked by young golfers how to grow in the game.
First beat your friends, then beat the juniors at your club and then win a county championship.
The Spartanburg County Junior Amateur Championships will take center stage for the summer, with golfers from across the county contending for their respective age group titles.
The Spartanburg County Junior Amateur Championship at Woodfin Ridge, scheduled for June 26 and 27 at Woodfin Ridge.
Registration is open for the tournament, which routinely draws a strong field of golfers.
Many of the county’s best junior players’ names adorn the tournament’s winners’ list, something that First Tee Upstate Tournament Director Zach Pretzer said seems to be something that continues to build.
“The names on the trophy have truly left a legacy in this area,” Pretzer said. “Players on that trophy are now professional players and high-level amateur players. We’re excited to see how the new era of champions pan out.”
In the ever-growing world of junior golf, Pretzer sees a true value in giving golfers a chance to participate in a big l ournament in their own community.
“It is very important to us to maintain a strong level of competition,” he said. “The junior golf world is growing rapidly, and we are excited to offer a great County championship here.”
As high school players from around the area continue to excel at the state level, the Spartanburg County Junior Championship is just one more way for players to learn and grow as they compete against their peers.
“In the past, we have had very strong fields,” Pretzer said. “The high school golf landscape in the are is continuing to produce fantastic players.”
While registration for the tournament is still open, the deadline is fast approaching. To register, visit firstteeupstate.org, and register under the Events tab..
