The Wingate Bulldogs made a final round charge to erase a seven shot Anderson Trojan lead and went on to win the South Atlantic Conference championship.
The scheduled 54 hole championship, played at The Preserve at Verdae, was reduced to 36 holes after the second round was washed out by weather issues.
In the final round, the NCAA DII’s top ranked Trojans got off to a rough start, while Wingate, the third ranked team in the country, was carding birdies.
The Bulldogs ran past Anderson by the turn and held off the Trojans late in the round to claim a three shot victory and the SAC tournament championship.
Wingate shot rounds of 290 and 287 for a 577 total while the Trojans final round was 10 shots greater than the defending champions first round as Anderson finished with a 580 total.
The Bulldogs where led by Amely Bochaton who finished at 7-under par for a two-shot victory.
The Wingate golfer was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year.
Her final round 6-under par 66 was the best round of the tournament and earned the Bulldog golfer her fifth win in her first year of college golf.
The Trojans Kennedy McGaha was second at 5-under par while her teammate Zoel Iglesias finished in third place at 3-under par.
“The ladies had another great tournament this week, playing some fantastic golf,” said first year coach JD Lamm. ” They deserved to take home the title. Each student-athlete played a huge part of the success this week. The ladies can now rest for a few days after a good stretch of tournaments, prepare and be ready to compete at regionals at the start of next month,” he added.

Anderson will also advance to the South Regionals to be played in just under a month in Gainesville, Ga. at the Chattahoochee Golf Club from May 5-7 to play for their spot in the NCAA National Championships in Las Vegas the following week.
