Upstate Ladies Championship 2025
Cooler-than-usual temperatures greeted players at the Upstate Women’s Championship, but so did steady rain. The first round at the Links O’Tryon went off as scheduled, but the second round was washed out — disappointing everyone, including the eventual champion.
Cheryl Krueger, a newcomer to ladies’ golf in the Upstate, birdied her final hole in the first round for an even-par 72. She left the course unaware she was leading.
“Five birdies and five bogeys — can’t feel too bad about an even-par round, considering the conditions,” she said. “Since I’m new to the area and the event, I really didn’t know what kind of score would be in contention.”
A member at The Cliffs, Krueger moved from Massachusetts with several club championships and state titles to her credit. After settling in, she entered the event for the first time.
“I’ve been impressed with the group — a lot of really nice ladies — and except for the rain it was fun,” she said.
Tournament officials called off the final round when the forecast failed to improve. Krueger’s 72 held up for the win, edging Jennifer Mills Grabosky’s 73. Laura Boes followed with a 75, and Debbie Huff carded a 76.
Krueger credited her finish on the demanding uphill par-5 18th for sealing the victory.
“It was a good way to finish, and I was ready to come back for the second round, but…” she said.

Krueger, who moved “for the weather,” plans to play as much as her flexible work schedule allows.
