The South Carolina Golf Association has selected The Carolina Country Club as its 2024 Club of the Year.

SCGA Executive Director Biff Lathrop informed the club that the award will be presented at South Carolina Golf Day next January at Forest Lake Club in Columbia.

“The Carolina Country Club truly embodies the values and spirit of the SCGA Club of the Year,” Lathrop said in announcing the award. “With two major championships already on your calendar — the Trescott and Lathrop Cups — you and your team went above and beyond to accommodate our last-minute needs in hosting the Amateur Championship.”

Last summer, the SCGA was forced to make a late venue change for its Amateur Championship when the original host course developed problems. Carolina Country Club owner Tim Dunlap was contacted by the Association, and the club stepped in to host the championship in late July.

The Amateur was won by defending SCGA Player of the Year Sam Jackson, who capped the week with a tap-in birdie on the final hole. Jackson thanked the club for its effort in pulling the event together on short notice, saying the course and staff did a great job hosting the championship.

Lathrop said the way the club responded to the request left a strong impression. Throughout the championship, he noted, Carolina’s staff and membership showed unwavering support for the Association’s efforts and mission to crown a deserving champion, creating an atmosphere that reflected the best of South Carolina golf.

The Club of the Year award also recognizes Carolina Country Club’s long-standing commitment to amateur and junior golf in the state. This year alone, the club has hosted two major regional amateur championships, the Carolina Cup collegiate event, two rounds of the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am, several significant fundraising outings for local charities, and most recently the SCHSL 5A Division I girls championship.

Dunlap said the recognition from the SCGA is meaningful for the members, staff, and course, and that the club intends to keep building on that standard. He emphasized that Carolina Country Club plans to continue using its facilities to support charitable events across the Upstate and to give back to the community by hosting tournaments and fundraisers for worthy causes.
