Clemson golfer Carson Young shot a 7-under par 64 in the first round and followed it up with a solid 1-under par 70 in the second round to earn a trip to the US Amateur.
Young’s two round total of 134 was three shots better than Josh Lorenzetti of Blythewood. Lorenzetti had the best second round in the qualifying tournament when he carded a 5 under par 66.
The third automatic qualifying spot needed a seven hole playoff to decide the last qualifier from the tournament at the Columbia Country Club.
Future Gamecock golfer Caleb Proveaux of Lexington and two-time South Carolina AAAA individual high school champion Trent Phillips of Inman locked in a length playoff.
Proveaux was eventually able to win the last spot by playing seven extra holes.
Phillips is the first alternate and J.D. Lehman of Bluffton is the second alternate from the qualifying tournament.
The US Amateur will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois starting on August 17th.
