Spartanburg golfer Anna Morgan has the lead after the first round of the Green Valley Girls Classic. Morgan shot a 2-under par 70 and holds a four-shot lead after 18 holes.
Morgan finished her first round with five birdies on the back nine holes to card a 32.
Four golfers are tied for second place. Elle Johnson of Inman, Katie Whitfield of Clemson, Delanie Mortier of North Charleston and Nicole Kramer of Charlotte all shot rounds of 2-over par 74.
The tournament is presented by the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association. This is the second year of the event. The field includes top junior girls age 10-18 who have not yet entered college. The field includes 61 junior girls.
The five top finishers at Green Valley receive invitations to play in The Blade Junior Classic this summer at Thornblade Club.
South leads North at All-Star tournament
The team from the South in the Palmetto State has the lead over the top high school seniors from the North at the 20th Annual All-Star matches.
The matches are being played at Litchfield Country Club on Pawleys Island. The matches conclude on Sunday.
