Greenville County Amateur champion Danny Brock shot lights out at the Greenville Country Club’s Riverside course to take the lead after the first round of the SCGA Mid-Am.
Brock carded a 30 on his first nine and 33 on the back nine to shoot an 8 under par 63 and hold a one shot lead over the field.
Brock started his round making an eagle and six birdies on the first 11 holes before a bogey on the 13th hole slowed his momentum. He birdied one of his finishing holes to put his 63 on the scoreboard.
John Weiss was playing just about as well as Brock. The Florence golfer posted nines of 33 and 31 for a 64 to trail Brock by a shot.
Kyle Bearden of Barnwell and former Clemson golfer Brent Delahoussaye from Greenville are tied for third place after shooting rounds of 65.
Greenville Country Club member Garland Ferrell, another former Greenville County Amateur champion, is tied with another former Clemson golfer, Stephen Poole from Aiken for fifth place.
There are 28 golfers who are under par after the first round of the championship.
Second round tee times begin at 8 am.
