North All-Stars win again

North Coach Kyle Scruggs from Chesnee accepts the Dru Nix Trophy after his North All-Stars topped the South All-Stars at Stoney Point in Greenwood.

Since the North-South Girls Golf All-Star Matches began in 2012 it has almost always been the North squad holding the trophy at the end of the competition.

The North All-Stars held a 5 1/2 to 2 1`/2 point lead after the first round of the Ryder Cup style matches played at Stoney Point in Greenwood.

The North didn’t let their advantage slip away on the second day of the 36 hole tournament.

Led by Anika Rana from Byrnes and Raquel Fowler from Greer Middle College the North won the matches for the second straight year. This year by a score of 11 1/2 to 4 1/2.

Rana and Fowler were the only golfers to win all three of their matches in the competition.

Rana joined Fowler for a team win. The Rebel golfer and Chesnee’s Isabella Britt combined for another team victory.

Fowler earned a point when she teamed up with J.L. Mann golfer Sarah Boteler for a first round win.

Both Rana and Fowler earned a third point each for the team when they won their singles matches on Saturday.

Rana and Fowler were joined on the winning team in the matches by Caleigh Noonan – St. Joseph’s, Gracie McCoy – Flora, Kennedy McGaha – BHP, Isabella Britt – Chesnee, Sarah Boteler – J.L. Mann, Coutney Collins – Daniel, The North team was coached by Kyle Scruggs from Chesnee and assisted by Coach Jim Laucuone.

The eight All-Stars from the North and South in the Palmetto State have played a season ending Ryder Cup style All-Star match since 2012.

The South was coached by West Florence’s Chris Wegmann’s and included Victoria Callahan and Alayna Fortenberry from Carolina Forest, Kelly Campman – Myrtle Beach, Lora Ledbetter – Conway, Amanda Meno – St. James, Nicole Whatley – Wando, Emily Beiers, and Karlee Vardas from Lexington. Wegmann was assisted by Coach Greg Hamm.

The North leads the series which began in 2012 with 8 wins and 1 loss.
