SS Christian wins Viking title at Greenwood

Southside Christian earned a narrow 1-shot victory over Eastside at the Emerald Viking Tournament played at Greenwood Country Club. Members of the winning team included Preston White, Garrett White, Trey Cauthen, Tillman Alverson and Will Robinson.

Southside Christian finished up just a stroke ahead of Eastside to win the annual Emerald High School Viking tournament played at Greenwood Country Club.

The Sabres shot a 310 total to slip by the Eagles at 311.

Eastside finished one shot behind Southside Christian and was the runner-up at The Viking. The Eagles team included Benton Leinster, Jack Magera, Brad Baldree, Will Leinster and Weston Beacham.

Fifteen teams took part in the tournament with A.C. Flora 314, Easley 322 and Wren 326 rounding out the top five.

While the battle for the team title was close the competition for the top three spots in medal play was even closer.

Four golfers tied for the lead at the end of regulation play setting up a playoff for the top-three individual awards.

Coleman Ferguson from Flora, Coltan Evatt from Easley, Luke Hammond from Mid-Carolina and Christian Davidson from Ninety Six all completed play on the par 72 course with 1-over par totals of 73.

Ferguson was the first one out of the playoff. Evatt, Hammond and Davidson needed two more holes before the tie was broken for the first three spots.

As a result of the playoff Hammond from Mid Carolina won the individual title followed by Davidson from Ninety Six in second place and Easley’s Evatt finishing third.

Luke Hammond from Mid-Carolina was the medalist at The Viking by winning a 3-hole playoff.
Christian Davidson from Ninety Six was second.
Easley’s Coltan Evatt finished in third place.
