Josh Branyon is trying to add a Carolinas Golf Association Mid-Am title to the 2011 and 2017 Mid-Am titles he has won in South Carolina Golf Association events.
The Honea Path golfer is off to a good start at the Columbia Country Club.
Branyon got to 4-under par early on his first 9 (back 9 on the course). He parred his next 5-holes to turn at 4-under par.
Playing the front-9 at Columbia Country Club, Branyon would add 3 more birdies before suffering a pair of bogeys on his last two holes of the day.
Branyon’s 5-under par 67 gave him a 3-shot lead over 4-golfers including the defending North Carolina Mid-Am champion Chad Wilfong from Charlotte.
Weston Bell from Piedmont, Jamie Lightsey from Indian Land and Anthony Conn from Raleigh are all tied for second place with Wilfong.
None of the leaders should feel comfortable about their position after the first round. Five golfers are tied for sixth place at 1-under par and 9-more golfers are at even par heading into the second round.
