Upstate juniors qualify for USGA Junior Am

Qualifying will continue for most of the month of June, but one upstate golfer already can make plans to be in Pinehurst in July to compete for the boys Junior championship.

Boiling Springs’ Andrew Gregory qualified for the national championship at the Dogwood Golf Club in Georgia.

Gregory, who helped the Bulldogs to the AAAAA state high school championship shot a qualifying round of 67 to tie for second place and earn one of the five spots advancing to play at Pinehurst.

Gregory finished 1-shot behind Nick Dunlap from Birmingham. Dunlap spent a year in the upstate at Riverside High School and is an Alabama commit.

At the girls qualifying event at Spring Valley in Columbia, Chloe Holder from Anderson and Sydney Roberts from Chesnee earned two of the tickets to advance to the USGA Girl’s Amateur.

Kiera Bartholomew from Wake Forest, NC shot a 3-under par 69 to card the best score and advance to the national championship at the Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD from July 12-17, 2021.

Holder shot a 2-under par 70 for second place with Roberts finishing third at even par.
