It should not be a surprise at the South Carolina High School Girls AAA Championship, Chesnee and Gilbert are the leaders.
The two teams have battled each other around the state in tournament play this year with Gilbert having a slight edge during the regular season.
In the first round of the AAA State Championship at the Hackler Course in Conway it is Chesnee with a slight advantage after the opening round.
The Eagles, led by future Clemson golfer Sydney Roberts, shot a 301 team total to hold a 3-shot lead over the defending champions from Gilbert.
The Indians were led by Kennedy Gooding who shot a 2-under par 70. She trails Roberts by 4-shots in the individual competition.
Chesnee’s Olivia Roberts shot the third best score of the first round when she carded an even par 72 to give the Eagles and the Roberts family two of the three best scores for the day.

AAAAA State Championship at The Country Club of South Carolina
While there is no surprise as to the two teams at the top of the AAA leader board there is even less suspense when it comes to the AAAAA Championship being played at the Country Club of South Carolina.
Blythewood has been the dominant team in any classification this year and the Bengals took a commanding lead after the first round in Florence,
The Bengals shot an 8 over par 296 total to lead Chapin at 313 with Dorman in third place at 319.
Individually, Ivy Schulze from Hanna High School in Anderson has the lead by a shot over former champion Isabella Rawl from Lexington and Adrian Anderson from St. James.

AAAA State Championship
The defending AAAA Champions from May River have a comfortable lead after the first round of the South Carolina AAAA High School championship being played at the Crescent Point Golf Course in Bluffton.
The Sharks shot a first round total of 324 to hold a 21 shot lead over the rest of the field, but the competition for the runner-up spot is very close.
Pickens is second at 345 with Hilton Head in third at 347, Catawba Ridge is fourth at 348 and Flora is fifth at 351.
Individually the Women’s South Carolina Junior Champion Madison Messimer from Myrtle Beach could add a state high school title to her victories this year.
Messimer shot a first round 2-under par 70 to hold a 2-shot lead over Kylie Bowes from May River.
