Region III AAAAA

Last year’s defending AAAAA state champions were one of the first to punch their ticket to the Upper State. Boiling Springs finished on top of the Region III AAAAA Tournament at the Chester Golf Club.

It was the first time this year that coach Josh Pruitt was able to field a healthy lineup for a tournament.

“We got Clayton Taylor back and healthy and he makes a difference for us,” said Pruitt. “Andrew Gregory played well and we had three All-Region players,” he added.

Fort Mill’s Cam Baker was the medalist in the Region shooting a 71, the Bulldogs’ Gregory was second at 72.

Boiling Springs struggled to close out the round and finish three shots in front of Fort Mill for the Region title.

“We are going to have to work on finishing before we go to the Upper State next week. We let a few too many shots get away at the end and we have to clean that up,” said Pruitt.

“Our Region voted and we got the support of the Athletic Directors and administrators to have a 36 hole tournament,” said White. “Our thought was that with 36 holes it would be a true championship event,” he said.
