Stoney Point to host two AJGA events in August

The Links at Stony Point has hosted an AJGA Championship for the last four years. This year it will add a second event designed for newcomers to AJGA competition.

The AJGA has been coming to The Links at Stony Point for four years.

The Greenwood Junior Championship returns this year and will include the regular AJGA golfers, but the course will also host a special new event designed for golfers who have not yet to play in the main field at an AJGA event.

The Greenwood Junior Championship is a 54-holes event, played from August 6-9. 78 boys and girls (ages 12-19) from around the country and the world will compete for the championship.

The second event, a new one for the Greenwood venue, is the inaugural Greenwood Preview. played from August 9-11th.

The Neuropeak Pro™Preview Series is designed specifically for AJGA members who have not yet played or been accepted to an AJGA tournament.

This series offers these new and returning members the opportunity to start building Performance Based Entry status. The 36-hole event will consist of 78 boys and girls (ages 12-19).

opportunities to junior golfers in the region,” said Katie Jones, the AJGA Tournament Director. “With the local community involved, we look forward to the opportunity to give back to both the Burton Center Foundation and the AJGA’s Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant Program, ” she added.


“The Burton Center Foundation and its Golf Committee is pleased to partner with the American Junior Golf Association and Discover Greenwood in serving as the benefiting charity for this event. We are also excited about the
possibility of a long-term relationship. In addition to the positive economic impact for Greenwood, it also
gives us an opportunity to showcase the Burton Center and the many programs we provide for our
clients,” said Jeff May the Executive Director of the Burton Center Foundation.

Kelly McWhorter, Executive Director of Discover Greenwood, noted that partnerships such as this are part
of what makes Greenwood an appealing sports destination. “We are again excited about joining with
great community partners such as The Links at Stoney Point, Burton Center Foundation, as well as the
AJGA and are grateful for Greenwood’s support of this significant event,” she said.

The event is free and open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to attend the event and see the next
generation of PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour stars. The Links at Stoney Point is located at 709 Swing About,
Greenwood, SC 29649.
