Brock wins Greenville County Am on his old home course

Danny Brock held off the charge from three golfers to record his second Greenville County Amateur Championship and the first on the course he grew up playing as a kid.

“I always just called it “The Fox”, Brock said. “The last couple of times the County has been played here I’ve been in the final group, but it didn’t go my way,” he said.

The third time must have been the charm for the former USC Upstate golfer.

Brock battled the entire final round with three other golfers and which one of the four would be the champion was in doubt until the final hole.

Defending champions Garland Ferrell came to the 18th green a shot behind Brock, but a wedge into the green stalled out on the fringe. Ferrell settled for a par and a tie with Todd.

Zander Briggs led the first round after carding a 7-under par 65 In the opening round.

He fell off the pace until he made an eagle and birdie late in the round to give him a chance to tie Brock with a birdie on the final hole, but his putt came up short.

Brock won his first Greenville County Amateur at Pebble Creek in 2018. It was a memorable win, but nothing like a win on his old home course in front of friends family and club members who watched him grow up on the course.

“This one is definitietleyl special.. Winning on a course I grew up on, I’ve had a couple of chances here the last few years playing at the home course with all the members. Maybe I put too much pressure on myself, playing on my home course where all the members saw me grow up. I’ve wanted to win one here for a long time and its nice to get it done finally,” concluded the two-time Greenville County Amateur champions.

Yancy Johnson held the lead in the senior championship from the start to the finish.

Johnson held off a rally by Todd Hendley to win his first senior title and second county championship.

A pair of former senior champions Duff Wagner and Kyle Turner finished third and fourth.

The Allison Cup, which goes to the Country Club with the best scores was again won by Holly Tree.
