It is hard to beat a good start in tournaments at The Bel.
Just ask the Nielsen brothers, Thomas and Jonathan, who finished the first round of the Jimmie Evatt Memorial Texas Two-Man by putting a blistering 59 on their scorecard.
12-under par round earned the leaders a little breathing room over the second place team of John and Brandon Masters, who posted a 9 – par 62.
With a three shot lead and the confidence of having won a tournament before on the course, the Nielsons cruised to a 10 under par 61.
The Masters improved their first round score by a stroke, but it wasn’t enough to over come the lead the Nielsen brothers built up in the first round.
After the top two teams James Scott and Cole Patterson finished third with two rounds of 63 for a 126 total an third place.
Flight winners included: First Flight – Chip and DJ Faust, Second Flight – Mark Torres and Johnny Pope, Third Flight – Donnie Fredricks and Pam Prescott, Fourth Flight – Phil Genthner\ and Brooks Byce, Fifth Flight – Mike Teasley and Marc Hiott, Sixth Flight – Cary Sanders and JB Sanders, Seventh Flight – Garrett and Cameron Stone.
Congratulations to Mike Teasley for his hole-in-one on #12.
The tournament once again proved to be popular among upstate amateurs. The full field of 160 golfers was registered as soon as the event was announced.
